How
to Hire a Guide
Let's face it,
you're going to pay an average of $25 per hour for a guide on Lake Fork, so
how can you be sure to "get what you paid for"? Consider asking your
potential "guide" the following questions:
1. "Do you
live on Fork year 'round?" So many "guides" are seasonal at best.
Since the guide business on Fork is not regulated, anyone can call
themselves a guide. Even if they're licensed, in many cases you'll find they
live anywhere from one hour away from the lake...all the way to another
state!
2."Is guiding
on Lake Fork your ONLY source of income?" This is your business!
If the answer's no that tells you they have other obligations than those to
you the paying customer!
3. If a guide
advertises that they are a "touring pro" or fish tournament circuits, ask
yourself how many days away from Lake Fork they spend pre-fishing other
lakes.
4.Instead of asking
the guide "what's your biggest fish?" ask "What's your "Customer's
biggest fish?" After all you aren't paying to watch someone else
catch a lunker!
5."How long
have you been fishing Lake Fork?"
6.Beware of
"guaranteed fish". You know the saying "if it sounds too good to
be true..." You'll be surprised at the number of "guides" that will be
eliminated by asking these few questions and chances are you'll be much more
pleased with your fishing trip.
